There are a few new things to this industry that were harder than others to get used to. The idea of using Instagram Direct Messages to book photoshoots was one of those things.

Who are these people? What are their intentions?

I am all about collaboration with other talent in the industry, so I knew I would have to use that direct message feature eventually.

Ryan "Jet" Perez (@ryanjetp) reached out to me a few weeks ago and asked to collaborate on a photoshoot while he was out in Los Angeles visiting for the weekend. Jet is from Phoenix, so it was a haul to get out to LA for him. I went over to his profile, definitely insta-stalked his profile and chose to respond. Long-story-short, the shoot was SO fun and we captured some really awesome images that are below!

We hung out for about 2 hours in Santa Monica. Finding nooks and streets that I had never explored before, seeing parts of the city that brought so much beauty to the images and had some top-notch people watching all the while. Jet and I got to talking about church and his involvement in his church in Phoenix. It was fun to chat about faith in the modeling and photography industry - it was definitely encouraging to know that the photoshoot I booked from and Instagram direct message held many of the same core values that I did.

While we were shooting, I asked Jet how he found me on Instagram (which I always find so fascinating), and he could not remember. But, the fact that somehow my images popped up in his feed, or explore tab was encouraging to think that maybe all the effort I have been putting into solid personal branding is actually paying off. That felt pretty good.

All in all - Ryan "Jet" Perez was an amazing photographer to work with a few weeks back. It was fun working with him to find light flares in his lens and even help him work on some new editing tools that he was learning. Working with him was truly a collaboration. It wasn't all about him and it wasn't all about me, but rather, two creatives coming together to create a vision that each individual knew was possible to create with a team.
