THE ACTING CLASS :: KILLIAN'S WORKSHOP

It’s no lie that I definitely have a personality. I never dabbled in drama or theater in high school, but now that I am running down the path in this industry, it was time to figure it out. I’m never one to shy away from a challenge, so I signed up for my first acting class.

Killian's Workshop on Melrose was an amazing first class to take to get a great foundation in commercial acting. As a beginner, I went into it thinking that I would be behind every person in the class. I was definitely far behind, but the class didn’t make me feel that way. The instructor, my fellow classmates, all were supportive of one another, offering constructive criticism. Not going to lie, the first class, first set of sides, was really rough. It’s safe to say that by the end of the first class, I achieved the most improved award. The format of each class would be to do a mock audition at the start of class, then get critique from the instructor, then finish the class by taking that critique and applying it to a second go at the audition. During the first week, I went from completely blowing the first audition to nailing the audition and being able to even put a fun button on the end of the audition.

People love to tell me that I am a natural with modeling and acting, and the acting part of things was hard to believe. I had never dabbled in it at all, so why would they think that I could be a natural at it. Sure enough, the last week of class, my instructor said to me, “Cory, keep it going. You are definitely a natural and I can see you going places with this.” Those words were all I needed to keep the grind going. I am excited to keep dipping my feet into the acting world to see where it can take me.

HEFFNER MANAGEMENT :: SEATTLE, WA

About a week ago, my manager called me and said, "Cory, I have good news for you!"

Good news is always amazing to hear. I was on a drive up to LA in traffic, so it was especially amazing on this day! He said to me, "We sent your book over to Heffner Management in Seattle and they want to sign you! ... TODAY!" YES!!!!

Guys, things are falling into place still. A "yes" is encouraging. How sweet it is to be wanted, believed in and accepted into the industry the way that I have been the last few weeks.

Heffner Management is one of the top agencies in the Pacific Northwest. I had met with them back when I first signed with White Cross Management back in 2013, but the timing just wasn't right for everyone. I am so excited to begin this journey with the Heffner family! I will be flying up to Seattle this Friday to go and meet my team and figure out a good game plan for my future with them!

The grind continues. CMT.

THE DIRECT MESSAGE //SANTA MONICA, CA\\

There are a few new things to this industry that were harder than others to get used to. The idea of using Instagram Direct Messages to book photoshoots was one of those things.

Who are these people? What are their intentions?

I am all about collaboration with other talent in the industry, so I knew I would have to use that direct message feature eventually.

Ryan "Jet" Perez (@ryanjetp) reached out to me a few weeks ago and asked to collaborate on a photoshoot while he was out in Los Angeles visiting for the weekend. Jet is from Phoenix, so it was a haul to get out to LA for him. I went over to his profile, definitely insta-stalked his profile and chose to respond. Long-story-short, the shoot was SO fun and we captured some really awesome images that are below!

We hung out for about 2 hours in Santa Monica. Finding nooks and streets that I had never explored before, seeing parts of the city that brought so much beauty to the images and had some top-notch people watching all the while. Jet and I got to talking about church and his involvement in his church in Phoenix. It was fun to chat about faith in the modeling and photography industry - it was definitely encouraging to know that the photoshoot I booked from and Instagram direct message held many of the same core values that I did.

While we were shooting, I asked Jet how he found me on Instagram (which I always find so fascinating), and he could not remember. But, the fact that somehow my images popped up in his feed, or explore tab was encouraging to think that maybe all the effort I have been putting into solid personal branding is actually paying off. That felt pretty good.

All in all - Ryan "Jet" Perez was an amazing photographer to work with a few weeks back. It was fun working with him to find light flares in his lens and even help him work on some new editing tools that he was learning. Working with him was truly a collaboration. It wasn't all about him and it wasn't all about me, but rather, two creatives coming together to create a vision that each individual knew was possible to create with a team.

THE NEW ONES //RIVERSIDE, CA\\

There is a difference between the feeling of having support and the feeling of being believed in. From the moment I met photographer, Sarah Mireya (website here), I felt the latter. With her home base in Riverside, CA, Sarah is of the top trusted agency approved photographers and has shot many of the up and coming talent in the modeling industry. I was recommended to her by my management, and it was nothing less than an honor to work together with Sarah to bring to life some new, fun, fresh, and edgy photos from our time together.

When you shoot with Sarah, she has a few goals: make the talent feel as comfortable as possible & make it seem like a 2 hour shoot took place in 5 different places and took all day. She successfully accomplished both through the images you see here. It was fun witnessing her creative process come alive when she held her camera to her eye. She saw something in me and the images we were creating together that is unique and motivating. Half way through our time together she simply stated, "You can't turn back now, Cory, we are officially friends." In that moment, I felt welcomed, befriended and filled with ease. On this day, being in front of the camera, was less of a performance and more of a live piece of art.

Thank you Sarah Mireya for your friendship, creativity and belief in my future. These images truly show the beauty in the art you create with new faces and I am excited to see what the future holds for both of our careers!

B.SPOKE AMBASSADOR :: CUSTOM MENS SUITS

I have been given the opportunity to be a b.spoke clothing ambassador. This company creates custom clothing for men tailored to the perfect fit of its customer. For both look and feel, they work incredibly well with their customers to make men feel comfortable in the dapper attire that they wear. It has been great getting to know the team over at their store front in Costa Mesa, CA. It is amazing to see the variety of customizations that they are able to do with their clothing. Seeing some samples at the store really puts the "custom" in perspective - I even saw a suit coat, with images chosen by the wearer printed on the silk lining. So cool!

Last week, I had the privilege to be chosen as one of the distinguished judges on the panel for the Distinguished Young Woman of California program. I have participated as a production volunteer for this program in the past, but the role of a judge was one role that I had not played. It was an honor to be trusted with the responsibility of choosing one young woman to represent our state at the national level for her all-around excellence - particularly in the area of scholastics, physical fitness, self-expression, interview and talent. During the two show nights, b.spoke outfitted me in the two suits shown here.

So, thank you to Steve at b.spoke for keeping me dapper last week during the DYW program! Everyone needs to go check out more of the b.spoke line at their website (here)!

THE PROJECTOR //ORANGE COUNTY, CA\\

What do you get when you mix a blank white garage wall with a simple computer projector? Well, Lauren Scotti figured out a brand new medium for some epic images.

This week, I was able to shoot with the well known photographer, Lauren Scotti (Lauren Scotti Photographer). Lauren has built her craft and platform to becoming one of the premiere wedding photographers in the industry and was recently listed on a prestigious list of the Top 100 Wedding Photographers world-wide!

Her experience working with subjects on their most joyful day of their life, really shined through in our time together. She was amazingly gentle and creative with her direction, while she, herself, was dabbling in men's fashion for one of the first times in her career. It was a blast helping her make her vision come to life with these images. Along with the styling of Hannah Rich (Little Wing Styling), the final product of this incredible day, was nothing but jaw dropping.

THE PARKING LOT //SEATTLE, WA\\

What a fun time it was to shoot with Bethany Marie in Seattle, WA.

She is a Los Angeles based photographer who has an incredible eye for light, emotion, and fashion. It was so fun creating these images with her on the roof of a downtown parking structure.

Hope you all enjoy these new images from this rainy, June day in Seattle!
